Attempting to set boundaries on female sexuality is nothing new. Fandom may seem to offer an escape from convention but somehow that doesn’t seem to be the case. A girl fantasising about dating and marrying a famous man is “right”; it’s just a suitably silly, girlish fantasy. To fantasise about the same famous man with another man, though, is “wrong”, in a way a male fantasising about two women is somehow not.

This is ridiculous.

How sad that we’ve made so much progress in society in other ways, and yet girls are still mocked and insulted for straying outside the boundaries laid down for them, called delusional and pathetic and told to kill themselves. How much sadder is it that often those mocking are female too, and old enough to know better.

Equating D/s to rape is incredibly problematic for me, I’m afraid. It suggests a complete lack of understanding of what D/s is (and how irrelevant heteronormative ideas of stereotypical “male” and “female” behaviour are in that context).

-TMI perhaps but I could introduce you to some heterosexual couples in D/s relationships who would laugh in your face if you suggested the female is playing any kind of submissive or inferior role (quite the opposite!)-

Furthermore, being submissive is not about being “weak” or “inferior”: again, this is a deeply problematic lack of understanding of the reality of power exchange.

Congratulations to President Barack Obama! As proved by this photograph, Baltimore parades were a sight to see in the early 1900s. Last night’s presidential and state election made history and if anything deserves a parade, its Maryland’s voters.
